Kevin Harvick tests asphalt late model; Now looking to race

NASCAR driver teases re-opening Kevin Harvick Incorporated

Kevin Harvick has spent the last 22 years in the NASCAR Cup Series. However, this week he climbed into something a bit different.

Hear from Kevin Harvick after the late model test session below.

On Wednesday, Harvick unloaded an asphalt late model at Caraway Speedway. The track is a .455-mile short track located in Sophia, North Carolina.

“Today was a good day! Thank you Rodney Childers for the idea and effort to make this happen!! Appreciate everyone’s help and I guess we are looking for a race now @CARSTour ! #62 #KHIreborn.”

The KHI Reborn hashtag is interesting. The driver previously owned Kevin Harvick Incorporated. The team fielded NASCAR Truck Series and Xfinity Series machines. The team opened in 2002 but closed in 2011.

Rodney Childers, the crew chief for Harvick’s #4 ride at Stewart-Haas Racing apparently helped put the test session together.

Childers commented, “Today was SO much fun! So gratifying to see this thing make laps all day. Thank you Kevin Harvick for letting us do this..”

Childers added, “Thank you to everyone out there that has helped me with this project. @NASCARRoots, @CARSTour, @hbpizza, @REradioz and @jayhedgecock.”

On a side note, Harvick apparently asked Childers to climb behind the wheel, several times. Childers commented, “Haha. I’ve seen a lot of people asking this.. He asked me multiple times. It wasn’t for lack of effort.”

Harvick has won 60 races at the NASCAR Cup Series level. He won the series title back in 2014.
