In the first major incident of the day, no drivers were injured. Helio Castroneves had an x-ray on his leg but was cleared from the medical center with a bag of ice and no fracture.
Lap 42 Crash
On lap 42, the race saw another wild crash.
Rinus VeeKay ran into the marbles and went wide into tire barrier. He sat parked against the wall with the field coming behind him.
Jack Harvey came around the corner and drove into the back of VeeKay as the track was blocked.
At the same time, Kyle Kirkwood was on the bumper of Harvey. All three cars pilled into each other.
Kirkwood was launched into the air and clear over both machines in a spectacular scene! However, Kirkwood landed back on his wheels and rolled to the pit lane. The crew was able to get him back in the race.
Jack Harvey was in noticeable discomfort. He was slow to climb from his machine as he talked with the medical team.
Harvey and VeeKay visited the care center. Harvey has since been transported to a local hospital.

Jack Harvey comments
“We had a great race going until we got caught up in someone else’s mess,” Jack Harvey stated via social media after the race.
“On another note, I’m all good. Nothing a little ice and a cold beer wont fix. Many thanks to the Indycar safety team for their amazing care! See everyone in Texas.”
