Race Report
Green flag, they run even into turn one. O’Neal wins the battle off turn two via the outside lane.
Lap 8, Daulton Wilson spins, caution.
Green, O’Neal leads Thornton Jr and Sheppard.
Lap 9, Bobby Pierce slides Sheppard for 3rd into turn three.
Lap 22, Sorensen spins, caution.
Green, O’Neal leads as Pierce knocks the cushion into turn one and takes 2nd away from Thornton Jr.
Lap 25, Ryan Gustin gets run over and the caution is out.
Green, O’Neal leads Pierce and Thornton Jr.
Lap 28, Sheppard heads for the cushion. He pulls to the right rear of Thornton Jr and takes 3rd away.
Lap 34, O’Neal bobbles off turn four. Pierce has a run into turn one, Pierce slides him to take over the lead.
Lap 43, Pierce struggles with lap traffic. o’Neal dives inside. They run three wide with lap traffic in the middle. Pierce holds the lead.
Lap 45, Nick Hoffman slows, caution.
Green, Pierce, O’Neal and Sheppard run three wide for the lead in turn one. Pierce holds the lead on the cushion off turn two.
Lap 53
Lap 53, Kyle Strickler stalls with right front damage, caution.
Green, O’Neal bobbles on the restart and falls to 5th before turn one. Pierce leads Sheppard off turn two.
Lap 57, O’Neal battles back on the cushion. He works to the right rear of Sheppard and reclaims 2nd.
Lap 69, Pierce struggles with lap traffic. He throws sparks off the outside wall and O’Neal closes the gap slightly.
Lap 74, Ricky Thornton Jr slows from 3rd. He heads for the infield, no caution!
Lap 85, O’Neal has closed to within a car length of Pierce in the battle for the lead!
5 to go, Pierce opens the gap to O’Neal.
1 to go, O’Neal has a run off turn two! O’Neal drives it deep to the inside in turn three! Pierce crosses under him and they rub doors off turn four!
It’s a drag race to the line, Bobby Pierce wins the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway!
