NASCAR returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval

On the 30-year anniversary, the Brickyard 400 returns

In 1994, the NASCAR Cup Series made their debut at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Brickyard 400 became an instant crown jewel event.

In recent years, the track struggled with uneventful NASCAR races. They elected to make a change.

For 2021, instead of using the oval, the NASCAR Cup Series ran on the infield road course. The Brickyard name was dropped from the event with the Verizon 200 in it’s place. That trend continued through 2023.

The event was run as an Indycar/NASCAR double-header weekend. It appears that will no longer be the case moving forward.

But in 2024, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval will return to the NASCAR schedule. The name of the event also returns to the ‘Brickyard 400’.

Additionally, the NASCAR Xfinity Series also make their return to the oval.

The NASCAR Cup Series will run on Sunday, July 21, 2024 while the NASCAR Xfinity Series Pennzoil 250 will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024.
