NASCAR crew member injured in pit lane incident at Miami (Video)

NASCAR crew member struck by truck during pit stop; Transported to hospital

The NASCAR Truck Series is currently racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race is the final playoff elimination race for the series.

In stage two, Memphis Villarreal and Mason Maggio were heading to their pit stalls at the same time. Maggio entered his box slower than expected and Villarreal changed his entry to his own stall to avoid contact.

Villarreal drove into his own crew members as he overshot his box. Multiple crew members were sent flying.

Cory Selig is the tire carrier for the team. He was sent into the infield pit wall and flipped over it. He picked up an injury.

The crew member was taken away in a golf cart to the infield medical center. He has since been transported.

Per a NASCAR statement, “The crew member of the No. 33 team will be transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.”

Memphis Villarreal comments

The #33 entry is fielded by Reaume Brothers Racing.

Memphis Villarreal stated over the team radio, “My bad there!”

“I feel like he stopped there. I don’t know, I didn’t want to spin him out.”

The driver added, “Sorry guys. I don’t know what I could have done different right there.”

In the previous race, we saw a similar incident. Zane Smith spun into his stall at Talladega Superspeedway and ran into his tire carrier. In that incident, the crew member jumped up and continued with his job without injury.
