The pace car needed a tow truck at Martinsville Speedway

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series raced at Martinsville Speedway. It was the final elimination race in the NASCAR Playoffs ahead of this week’s championship race.

During a caution period, the Chevrolet pace car abruptly came to a stop.

The rule is that drivers aren’t allowed to pass the pace car. So, when the pace car pulled out of line and came to an abrupt stop, there was noticeable confusion for the drivers.

The field slowly passed the pace car. NASCAR reacted quickly, sending out a Ford AMR safety truck with flashing lights to pace the field.

The Chevy was picked up by a tow truck and hauled to the infield as the crowd roared. The backup pace car was then put into action for the remainder of the race.

“Oh my! Now, we’re really seeing something,” Dale Earnhardt Jr stated as the car was hooked up to the tow truck.

RFK Racing stated, “Bro the pace car just died so a safety truck is pacing the field.”

Joe Gibbs Racing commented via X, “DNF for the pace car today.”

Chevrolet Statement

Chevrolet explained that, “rubber debris from the track damaged the wiring harness to the fuel pump, disabling the pace car. NASCAR has transferred to the back-up pace car to continue official pace car duties for the balance of the race.”
