Stewart would go on to claim three NASCAR Cup Series championships. He retired following the 2016 season with 49 NASCAR Cup Series victories.
Next week Mecum Auctions will head to Kissimmee, Florida. A lot of NASCAR race cars will be a part of the show.
One of those is claiming to be a 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series car. The owner says it was driven by Tony Stewart during his rookie season in 1999.
The car was built in 1997. It was originally raced by Bobby Labonte before it was wrapped in the No. 20 livery.
Following the 1999 season, the car was retired from Winston Cup competition. It was then used for high speed endurance racing until 2002.
The dashboard has been autographed by both Tony Stewart as well as his crew chief Greg Zippadelli.
The car also comes with other items. A pit board used to mark a pit stall to the driver as well as a signed racing suit.
Stewart is now an owner in the NASCAR Cup Series. He co-owns Stewart-Haas Racing and in 2024 he’ll race full-time in NHRA.
