NASCAR updates points ahead of Kyle Larson waiver decision

NASCAR has removed all playoff points earned by Kyle Larson

Two weeks ago, Kyle Larson ran in the rain delayed Indy 500. As the race was pushed back, it caused him to miss the NASCAR Cup Series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Without the delay, Larson intended to run both the Indycar and NASCAR race in the same day.

Indy 500 Results: May 26, 2024 (Indycar Series)

Charlotte Results: May 26, 2024 (NASCAR Cup Series)

This has placed NASCAR in a position to make a decision.

NASCAR Cup Series drivers are required to run all the races in order to be elligable for playoff competition. Typically, the two race wins would have locked him into the Playoffs except the requirement to run every event has been missed.

Hendrick Motorsports has applied for a waiver. If a waiver is granted, Larson would be eligble.

However, a week later, NASCAR has yet to make a public annoucnement regarding the waiver request decision. They’ve only briefly commented on the subject.

Now, the points report has been updated. Larson was the point leader heading into the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He also collected several playoff points which help the No. 5 team advance through each playoff round.

After the race on Sunday at WWT Raceway, the point standings have been updated. All playoff points have been removed from Kyle Larson. This is typically the case for drivers that aren’t eligable for playoff competiton.
