Indycar is currently in Newton, Iowa. Iowa Speedway is hosted a double-header race weekend for the NTT Indycar Series.

Teams were expected to roll onto the track today for a round of practice. Just before it started, lightning sent the event into a weather delay.

Moments later, tornado sirens started going off. A possible tornado rolled about 3 miles north/west of the track.

Over the PA system the message was delivered, “Please seek shelter, immediately. A tornado warning is in effect until 3:15. If no safe option is available to you, as a last resort the American Red Cross recommends getting into a vehicle, buckling your seat belt and keeping your head below the windows.”

“Iowa Speedway may not provide adequate protection from extremely high winds, hail or tornados. There is no basement or approved tornado shelter on property.”

“Be aware of a strong threat of tornados. Please seek shelter.”

The Indycar garage was seen sitting on the infield of the speedway as they watched the storm roll by.

Indycar driver, Scott McLaughlin stated via X, “First for everything”

Ed Carpenter Racing shared, “What do racing drivers do when there are tornado sirens? Stand around and watch”
