IHRA introduces a new short track oval series for stock car racing

$2,000,000 purse is up for grabs with the new short track racing series

The International Hot Rod Association is known for their drag racing divisions. But in 2026, they are also stepping into the world of oval short track stock car racing.

The new series will feature eight races in 2026. Each event will see two divisions, late model sportman and pro late model.

The new series is offering a $2,000,000 purse. The opening race and season finale are offering $25,000 to win for the late model sportsman division and every race in-between will pay $10,000 to the winner.

“We’re bringing stock car racing back to its roots,” Darryl Cuttell, Owner of IHRA stated int he series release. “This is racing that rewards driver skill, smart setups, and teamwork—not massive budgets. It’s exactly the kind of competition fans love, and competitors deserve.”

A Return to Authentic Stock Car Racing

“Unlike many modern series, the IHRA Stock Car Series is intentionally engineered to avoid the “arms race” of high-cost builds and spending wars. Instead, it prioritizes:”

“- Cost-effective structure, encouraging racers to out-think rather than out-spend their competition.”

“-Fair rules that keep the field level.”

“-A welcoming entry point for new racers.”

“-A sustainable pathway for teams and tracks.”

“-A robust, LIVE broadcasting platform to help racers secure sponsorships.”
