Alex Bowman will miss the NASCAR race at Phoenix

Anthony Alfredo will drive the No. 48 car at Phoenix Raceway

Last week, NASCAR raced at Circuit of the Americas. Bowman came over the team radio, during the race, saying that he was feeling sick.

Hendrick Motorsports scrambled to find a reserve driver. Myatt Snider, who was a part of the broadcast team was selected and he brought his suit and helmet to the track.

NASCAR officials enacted a quick approval for Snider to climb behind the wheel of the No. 48 car on lap 71 of the race.

Now, the NASCAR Cup Series is heading to Phoenix Raceway. Bowman will not race after being diagnosed with vertigo this week.

Hendrick Motorsports noted that the symptoms began during the race at COTA on Sunday.

Anthony Alfredo will drive the No. 48 car at Phoenix Raceway. Alfredo does sim testing for Hendrick Motorsports.

Hendrick Motorsports comments

“Alex has worked very hard over the last several days,” said Jeff Andrews, president of Hendrick Motorsports.

“We’re encouraged by the progress he’s making, but we have to prioritize his health above all else. It’s obviously frustrating for him because he’s a competitor and wants to be in the race car, especially at his home track.”

Hendrick Motorsports concluded, “We’ll continue to support Alex and look forward to his return as soon as he’s medically cleared.”

The team will apply for a waiver to allow Bowman to be playoff eligible.
