Medical update on Manuel Gil del Real after the Laguna Seca crash
This weekend, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is hosting the finale of the 2026 INDYCAR Series season in California.. This morning, a support class driver was involved in a terrible crash.
Driver Manuel Gil del Real came into the famous Alex Zanardi corkscrew corner at near full speed. He launched into the curbing, over the fence and landed in the trees behind the fencing.
Images from the scene show the car landed upside down. The entire front suspension was separated from the chassis.
The driver was airlifted from the facility to a local hospital. No fans or photographers were injured in the crash.
INDYCAR Series practice was delayed and shortened as the track made repairs.
“UPDATE: The start of Practice 2 is on hold as track repairs are underway following an on-track incident this morning,” INDYCAR stated just ahead of practice. “Stay tuned to FS2 for the latest updates from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.”
