Austin Cindric was forced to the garage after picking up nose damage
NASCAR Cup Series drivers are currently racing on the 0.526-mile short track of Martinsville Speedway. It’s the final race before next week’s championship race.
Ahead of this race, NASCAR made some rule changes. They removed a large block of foam from short tracks, purposely removing some of the structure from the nose.
The idea was to create more crush and help prevent drivers playing bumper tag too hard on short tracks. They can still do it they just have to be more thoughtful when doing it.
In stage two, Carson Hocevar spun out our his own. The driver stated over the radio, “It’s undrivable.”
Moments later, on the following restart, Hocevar gave a brake check to Austin Cindric on the front stretch. He then did it again exiting turn two. And a third time was all the No. 2 car could take.
Cindric picked up heavy nose damage. He was forced to the pit lane and the crew had to remove the hood of the car entirely. He then pulled to the garage for extensive repairs.
Austin Cindric stated over the radio, “He just threw a temper tantrum.”
The race is currently underway.
