The news broke ahead of the United States Grand Prix weekend. Lewis Hamilton tweeted a screenshot of his COD character on Wednesday.

“I grew up with Super Mario, where the graphics were outdated at the time,” Hamilton said in an interview, as reported by Motorsport. “It’s crazy to see how far it [computer games have come] – the realisation is unbelievable.

“I loved it,” he said, discussing his involvement in the game. “It was a great experience, I am incredibly honoured to be part of this game. I’ve been a fan for years,” he added.

Lewis Hamilton joins a group of celebrities featured in the game. Other notable celebrity characters include UFC champion Conor McGregor.

The first COD game was released in 2003. Since then, the Call of Duty franchise has sold over $11 billion in games, ad-on’s and merchandise.

The last Call of Duty release sold 15 million copies. It took just 6 weeks for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to reach those numbers.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is set to be released on November 4th, 2016.
