2016 Gateway Dirt Nationals Results – Dirt Late Models – Saturday December 17th, 2016

2016 Gateway Dirt Nationals Results were topped by Scott Bloomquist. The Tennessee driver won the main Saturday in the Dirt Late Model division at The Dome in St. Louis. The Gateway Dirt Nationals was held in the Edward Jones Dome to a near sell out crowd. Attendance neared the 15,000 mark.

The Gateway Dirt Nationals held another great night of racing on their tiny temporary 1/5 mile track. It brought the entire dirt racing world to Saint Louis and those fans were given an exciting night of aggressive short track racing.

He was greeted to a range of cheers and boo’s. All at once as he entered the race track to start the main event. But, Scott Bloomquist led flag to flag in St. Louis. He did it in no particular groove. Instead, he did it in all of them.

Shannon Babb made an early lap 1 charge at Bloomquist. They were side-by-side and a yellow came out. Which forced a complete restart. Shortly after that Babb was involved in an accident that took him out of the race.

Driving through the ruts, avoid the ruts. Bloomquist was fast anywhere he put his car. He’d run high one lap and low the next. It didn’t matter because Bloomquist was fast in all of them.

In victory lane Bloomquist commented on the unique Gateway Dirt Nationals event. He said, “Anytime someone tries something like this you gotta come out and support it.”

Scott Bloomquist was presented with a $20,000 check for his win in the inaugural event. He is now the first winner of the Gateway Dirt Nationals.

Snow and ice covered the St. Louis area. The event was hit with bad weather all weekend. They still managed a 99% sellout rate at the gates for the main event on Saturday night at The Dome.

Attendance was also fair for Friday night’s racing program. No official attendance numbers on Thursday or Friday preliminary events.
