Erik Jones to Joe Gibbs Racing – Jones will drive the #20 in the 2018 season
Erik Jones is set to drive the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The new seat will open, starting in 2018.
The move was confirmed on Tuesday by Joe Gibbs Racing.
Matt Kenseth is the current pilot of the #20 car at Joe Gibbs Racing. He announced last week that he will not have a ride at Joe Gibbs Racing.
Erik Jones currently drived of the No. 77 Toyota for Furniture Row Racing. However, he was more or less a lease to that team.
Joe Gibbs Racing simply didn’t have a seat for Jones in 2017. They leased him to Furniture Row, allowing the JGR driver to be primed for full time racing.
Jones will now officially take over for Matt Kenseth, who has driven the No. 20 for JGR since 2013.
2017 is the first season in the Monster Energy Series for Jones. He has five top-10 finishes in the first 18 races. He best finish to date is 3rd, which he collected at Pocono Raceway.
