Following his 3rd place results, Matt Kenseth was interviewed on pit road.
“Well, we had good track position,” Matt Kenseth talks about his day at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“I just couldn’t restart good. Every time we had a restart I’d lose anywhere from 1 to 4 spots. I felt like in [Turn] 1 and 2, no matter what lane I was in.”
“That really hurt us today with all the short runs at the end. I need to figure out how to get through the gears quicker and figure out how to get through the first set of corners quicker, the way a lot of these races play out.”
“Long run, I felt like we could run with the #18. As long as the distance wasn’t too big in the beginning.”
“If you can’t win you want to finish as high as you can. If you can’t run 2nd, you want to run 3rd.”
Really do, really need a win bad
“We really need a win. Really do, really need a win bad. I’m a little let down we didn’t get it. We just need to be a little bit better.”
Matt Kenseth sits 6th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship standings. His teammate, Kyle Busch, went on to grab the win today at New Hampshire.
So far, Matt Kenseth still doesn’t have a ride for 2018. His contract with Joe Gibbs Racing will expire after 2017. The team has elected to put Erik Jones in the #20 car.
