Stage 1

Green flag, Custer and Reddick are even in turn 1. They are still even down the back and into 3. Reddick gets the power down on the outside of turn 4, he takes the lead. Restart violation for Ryan Reed, he changed lanes.

Lap 3, Custer is running a lane lower than Reddick in 3-4. He’s got a run off the corner. Custer dives to the bottom in turn 1, he drifts up the banking and takes the top lane away, new leader.

Lap 19, JJ Yaley has spun, all by himself. He was running 30th.

Green, Reddick and Custer fight for space heading into turn 1. Reddick wins the early battle. Custer fights back in turn 3. Custer retakes the lead.

They cross, then they cross again. Another cross-over, 3 laps in a row they exchange the lead. Custer finally holds the position.

3 to go, Custer leads by 1.7 seconds. He wins stage 1. Hemric was the lead Championship 4 driver, throughout the entirety of stage 1. However, at the end Sadler was on his tail.

Stage 1 Results: 1. Cole Custer; 2. Tyler Reddick; 3. Spencer Gallagher; 4. Scott Lagasse Jr; 5. Ryan Preece; 6. Ty Majeski; 7. Daniel Hemric; 8. Elliott Sadler; 9. JJ Yaley; 10. Joe Nemechek;

Stage 2

The field hits pit road. Custer lost two positions, he exits in 3rd. Reddick and Ryan Preece lead the field off pit lane.

Green flag, Preece gets a big push from Cole Custer, they snake their way to the inside of turn 1. Reddick has a wider entry on the high side. Reddick takes the lead off turn 2.

Lap 55, Custer looks to the inside of Preece into turn 3. Custer looks to the middle, he taps the brakes and the rear end jumps out. Preece and Hemric lifted as that happened underneath them. Custer was quick to gather it up and get back into the gas. Custer moves to 2nd.

Lap 61, Daniel Hemric to pit road! He was the championship leader! Battery issues for the only Richard Childress Racing and non-JRM car in the Championship 4. The crew is changing the battery, under green.

At the same time, Custer takes the lead.

Lap 79, Christopher Bell has blown an engine. He’s out, we stay green.

5 to go in stage 2, Custer still leads. William Byron and Elliott Sadler are side-by-side for the championship. Sadler is attempting to role the bottom, he can’t carry the exit speed. Byron comes off the corner was much more speed. They battle for 5th and 6th.

Stage 2 Results: 1. Cole Custer; 2. Sam Hornish Jr; 3. Tyler Reddick; 4. Ryan Preece; 5. William Byron; 6. Elliott Sadler; 7. Brennan Poole; 8. Ty Majeski; 9. Justin Allgaier; 10. Corey Lajoie;

Stage 3

Custer is first on, first off as the field exits their pit box.

Green flag, Custer takes the lead in turn 1. Byron and Sadler are still nose to tail, right where they left off. However, Justin Allgaier is quickly coming into the race. The Championship drivers are now running 3rd, 4th and 5th. Byron leads, he has Jeff Gordon, Rick Hendrick and Dale Jr in his pit box.

Lap 116, Allgaier has started to fade. He has short run speed. Byron and Sadler have disappeared into the distance and Allgaier has a mirror full of Ryan Preece.

Elliott Sadler has the faster car. However, he can’t find a way around Byron. The #9 is glued to the wall while the #1 is running a lane off the wall to get some clean air and put some air on the front end. But, in doing so, Byron has more corner exit speed.

Lap 125, Sadler dives to the bottom. He slides up the hill, right in front of Byron. Sadler takes the top lane away. Byron attempts the cross-over. He makes it stick in turn 1, Byron re-takes the position!

I did not see the coming. Now, Byron has opened a gap up to Sadler. Allgaier is struggling with the setup. He keeps attempting to run the high lane but he doesn’t have the grip for it. He’s smooth and steady when he runs the bottom. When he runs the top, he’s sawing on the wheel.

Chad Knaus radio, “What do you need to run the wall?” Justin Allgaier responds, “To be honest with you. It’s like the right front loses load it just stops turning. Then, when I step it back [speed wise?], it really turns, all at once.”

Despite that radio communication, Allgaier is still trying to run the wall every few laps. Allgaier has fallen to 8th. At the front, Custer leads by 12 seconds.

Lap 144, Justin Allgaier short pits the field. He gets an adjustment as well. Byron and Sadler hit pit road on the following lap, it was a reaction to Allgaier. Sadler beats Byron off pit lane, they race around the exit road. Lap 147, Cole Custer is on pit lane.

Elliott Sadler quickly catches Casey Mears who has yet to pit. Sadler isn’t sure which lane Mears will pick. Sadler turns low, so does Mears. Sadler has to check up.

Byron is on the throttle around the top, he cuts under Sadler on the exit as Sadler drifts to the wall on exit. They split Mears down the front straight. Byron slides from the bottom to the top in turn 1 and takes the position. This is the race for 4th and the championship.

40 to go, Byron is exploring lanes. Sadler is all over his bumper. Byron takes the middle lane, Sadler picks the top. Sadler has a run, Byron shuts the door on the exit.

Elliott Sadler radio, “I’ll wreck him.. if he wants to do that to me.”

Elliott Sadler drove deep into the corner on the bottom. He skates up the banking and clips Byron. Right front to left rear contact. They both go all the way up the track and gather it up inches from hitting the wall.

36 to go, Sadler is up to 4th! He drove it deep and it stuck, Sadler takes the Championship lead.

William Byron has found speed. The sun has set and so has desperation on the #9. He’s entering every corner, right against the wall. Easy in and deep into the throttle on exit. Byron is glued to the wall. He’s now running down Sadler.

22 to go, Byron clips the wall. Just a scrap, no damage. Allgaier is 10th but he’s a lap down. Cole Custer leads by 15 seconds.

12 to go, Byron has found a groove against the wall. At the same time, Sadler has caught Preece. Byron dives to the bottom, Sadler holds the lead on exit.

Sadler dives to the bottom, he’s going to try and clear Preece. He doesn’t, Sadler’s exit speed is pinched by Preece. Byron has a huge run.

Byron pulls out at the entry, he’s going to slide up between Preece and Sadler. Sadler is trying to fill the hole on the top and hold position on the top lane. Sadler gets into the wall.

6 to go, Byron is held up by Preece. He dives to the bottom. Byron is around Preece. Now it’s Sadler’s turn to try and get around Preece, he dives to the bottom, slides up and clips Preece. He had to get around Preece, it was a desperate pass that didn’t work.

Sadler is on the radio saying he has a flat. I don’t think he does, the camber just looks off on the right front. I think it’s just suspension damage.
