Martin Truex Jr is the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion. He claims the first championship for himself as well as Denver based Furniture Row Racing.
Dale Earnhardt Jr and many others rub fenders as Martin Truex Jr comes to the front straight. He had just claimed the title.
It was a win that didn’t come easy. Martin Truex Jr didn’t have the dominant car all day, he had to fight for it. He did, and he won.
“I don’t even know, I was a mess,” Martin Truex Jr tells NBC Sports after winning the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship.
“I couldn’t even talk. I was a wreck thinking about all the tough days. The bad days. The times where I thought my career was over with.”
“The times when I didn’t think anybody believed in me,” Martin Truex Jr fights back tears.
“But, the people who mattered did; my fans, my family.”
“Then when I got with this team, they’re unbelievable. They resurrected my career and made me a champion. I don’t even know what to say.”
“Barney Visser spent 11 years working toward this goal and he couldn’t be here tonight. I know he’s probably in about as much shock as I am.”
“Tonight’s going to be a hell of a party.”
