The name Carl Edwards — That wasn’t planned in the S2 E13 scene
Last week, NASCAR driver Matt DiBenedetto make his acting debut. He had a small role on the FOX tv show, Lethal Weapon.
In the scene for season 2 episode 13, cops came into the bar looking for a man. The man they were looking for was “the real Carl Edwards.”
Multiple characters claimed to be the said Carl Edwards. Another then threw a shot in the face of the cops, “I’m Carl Edwards.”
A fight broke out. The character playing one of the male ‘Carl Edwards’ was non other than Matt DiBenedetto. He was the one that threw the shot and started the entire fight.

Fun Fact
As we all know, Carl Edwards is a former NASCAR driver. But, the writers at the Lethal Weapon apparently didn’t know that. It was just coincidence that Matt DiBenedetto’s character had the name of another NASCAR driver.
“That was actually a total coincidence. Them using the name Carl Edwards for that scene, it wasn’t intentional. They were just using a random name,” Matt DiBenedetto states to NASCAR.com on Tuesday during NASCAR Media Day.
Matt DiBenedetto informed them that they had given him a name of another NASCAR driver. It’s was totally random. Likely one of those subconscious things on the writers part.
“We just thought it was hilarious. So, we just rolled with it. That was not planned which is the craziest, funniest thing,” DiBenedetto concluded.
How did the role come about?
“I got a call. I was like, heck ya, I’ll do that. Everybody knows that I’m comfortable being on camera. But, acting and being a part of a TV show is crazy.”
“I have a whole new respect for what those guys do. It’s amazing to see what details goes into creating just one scene. It was neat. One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever got to do,” DiBenedetto said from the trailer on set back in November.
