Tonight, the new season is fired. Golden Isles Speedway hosts round 1 of the tour. Tonight’s program is part one of a two day show at the Waynesville, GA dirt track.

41 cars are on hand tonight for the LOLMDS season opener. The super late model drivers will tackle the 5/8 mile banked dirt oval. The winner of tonight’s main event will take home $10,000.

Hot Laps – Report
Kyle Bronson, Jonathan Davenport, Brandon Sheppard and Earl Pearson Jr turned quick times in their hot lap sessions.
Qualifying – Report
Jonathan Davenport set a time of 16.070 in Group A qualifying. That was enough to set overall quick time.
Heat 1 – Report
Jonathan Davenport and Jason Jameson lead them to the green in the first heat race of the season. Trouble as they pack in the track, Jameson has a major tire rub or something else had broken. Smoke flies from the back and he hits the pits. Shane Clanton moves up to row 1.
Green, Davenport leads on the bottom in turn 1. Clanton slots in 2nd, Don O’Neal 3rd. Drivers are experimenting with the top groove though most are glued to the bottom.
Davenport drives away from the field. He wind heat race number one.
Heat 2 – Report
Kyle Bronson and Jimmy Owens set row 1. Green, Bronson spins his tires on the launch. Owens leads into turn 1 and jumps to the cushion. He comes off turn 2 in the lead. Bronson runs 2nd. These two begin to drive away from Overton and the rest of the pack.
Owens wins heat race number two.
Heat 3 – Report
Josh Richards and Mason Zeigler lead them to the green in heat 3. Green, Josh Richards is a nose ahead into turn 1. They battle through the corner and Richards comes out with the lead. Lap 2, Zeigler loops it in turn 4, caution.
Green, Richards is building a gap to Pearson Jr. Richards is exploring the top side in turn 1, now the middle. He drives away regardless.
Richards wins heat race number 3.
Heat 4 – Report
Scott Bloomquist and Brent Larson line up behind the pace truck. Green, Bloomquist is on the brake pedal early in turn 1. Caution, false restart was the call.
Green, same thing, on repeat. Larson drives it in deeper once again. Through the middle he takes the lead off turn 2. Larson begins driving away early.
Lap 7, Bloomquist has begun to reel in Larson. Lap 8, caution, Steven Roberts is around in turn 3. Green, nose to tail on the bottom.
Larson wins the 4th and final heat race.
B Main 1 – Report
Tim McCreadie and Casey Roberts set the front row. They’re even into turn 1. Roberts gets the launch through the middle in turn 2.
McCreadie backs up his entry to turn 3. He runs a full lane lower than Roberts. McCreadie has more grip off turn 4. He drives by down the front stretch and leads into turn 1.
McCreadie wins B Main number one.
B Main 2 – Report
Mason Zeigler and Tyler Erb set row 1. Green, Zeigler leads by two cars lengths into turn 1. Caution, false start. Green, this time Erb drives it deeper into turn 1. He nearly loops it. Sideways, Erb falls to 6th. Caution, spinner in turn 3.
Green, spin in turn 1. Green, Zeigler leads, Dennis Erb Jr slots in 2nd. Another spin at the back. Only 2 laps are complete.
Green, they’re trying to wreck at the back but save it. Zeigler drives off to the win.
Main Event – Report
Jonathan Davenport and Josh Richards set row 1 for the first main event of the season. 4 wide salute, we’re going racing.
Green, Davenport leads into turn 1. Richards gets a run on the bottom in turn 2. He’s under him down the back. Richards cuts it to the bottom in turn 3 and slides all the way to the wall off turn 4. Davenport crosses under him off turn 4.
Davenport drives back to the lead in turn 1. Richards isn’t done fighting. He gets another run off turn 2. Same move this time Richards take it lower in turn 3. The dust kicks into the air but he holds it down there. Richards regains the lead.
More drivers are going lower. Caution, Casey Roberts is slow in turn 2.
Green, Jimmy Owens is around Davenport for 2nd. The field has found the bottom. Lower and lower. They are running through the bumpy inside line to find grip. Cars are being thrown in all kinds of directions. It’s exciting to watch. Jimmy Owens remains at the top, still 2nd.
Lap 25, Richards leads by a straight away.
Lap 34, the caution is out. Jason Jameson has a flat.
Green, Davenport gets by Owens in turn 1. Owens tries the bottom in turn 3. So does Davenport, Owens is forced lower. They run side by side through 3. Davenport holds the position off turn 4. Caution is out.
Green, Richards leads. The whole field is running through a rut in turn 3-4. They’re bouncing across it to find the moisture inside. Caution, Roberts has a flat.
Green, Hudson O’Neal is flying through the field on the bottom. He started 15th! He’s around Owens and chasing down Richards. He’s there with just a handful to go. O’Neal looks to the inside in turn 1, he backs out.
He looks to the inside in turn 3. Again, he backs out. Hudson O’Neal has the fastest car in the field.
Lap 49, caution, Bloomquist has spun in turn 3. Hudson O’Neal was just making a move in turn 3. Richards might have backed out for the caution lights. Hudson got around him but they will revert to the previous lap. Richards will restart in the lead.
Green, O’Neal is there but he slips in turn 3. Richards is clear by 3. He drives off to win the first race of the season!
They will rack ’em again tomorrow night. Same track, the Super Bowl of Racing comes to a close on Saturday night at Golden Isles Speedway.
