The Daytona 500 winner got a tattoo to celebrate the NASCAR win – Crew members did as well
On Monday morning, Austin Dillon and crew entered the press conference at Daytona International Speedway. Upon entrance, Dillon was given a slap to his ass by members of the crew.
“I got a tattoo last night. It says, ‘Daytona 500 Champ’ on it,” Austin Dillon explains during the press conference.
“It’s pretty cool. And you’ll never be able to see it either.”
In addition, the tattoo features the Daytona 500 logo. But, the #3 driver wasn’t the only one to get a tattoo. Members of the Richard Childress Racing crew were also inked.
“It’s a pretty cool looking today. Whitney is probably the only one that is going to see it for a while.”
Whitney is the wife to the Daytona 500 Champion. Austin and Whiney Dillon were married during the off-season.

“It hurt,” Dillon said. “It feels OK this morning, but one of my boys smacked me on the butt when I came over here, and I was like, ‘Easy, guys.’ ”
Many of the crew members share the same tattoo. With the Daytona 500 a few more were initiated into the tribe.
“We had talked if we won the Daytona 500, there were going to be a couple of us initiated into the ‘wolfpack,'” said shock specialist Clay Alexander. “This isn’t something we’re messing around with.”
“This is a real deal. I’m going to have it for the rest of my life. I’m pretty hard core about the 3 car and what I’m doing and I’m very proud to have it. … It’s a pretty sacred thing. It’s kind of surreal.”
“This is definitely my first tattoo,” Alexander said. “My grandmother would be very disappointed in me right now, but I think she would understand.”
Team owner Richard Childress did not get a tattoo. Though, he also was not out with the team that night. If he had been he stated he might have.
“You don’t get these opportunities to run in the cup series unless something very special happens,” Austin Dillon rejoined the conversation. “The Dow logo on our car down there. They wanted to create something special when they came into this. Just like Jeff Gordon did with DuPont.”
“Dow and DuPont merged together. I’ve got a brand that stuck with me from the beginning of my career. It feels really good to bring them home a win. Especially as iconic as this win is. There’s nothing like it.”
The Daytona 500 win marks the 2nd win for Austin Dillon in his MENCS career. Both wins came in crown jewel NASCAR races. The other win came in the Coca-Cola 600 in 2017.
