The first race of the 2020 Indycar Series season is on deck for tonight. First, they’ll set the starting grid.
View the Indycar starting lineup below.
Takuma Sato set the pole position in this race last year. However, he’ll be starting from the tail tonight.
Sato just lost the rear into the corner on his qualifying laps. The backend just came around, at the very beginning of the corner. Sato is sent nose first into the outside wall.
He took a wide entry and was heavy in the PJ1 traction compound. It takes heat to activate that PJ1. Until then, it’s slick as ice.
Sato walked away under his own power.
Ryan Hunter-Reay is pinching his entry and exit to shorten up the track distance. And he’s holding it on the bottom in the corner. Hunter-Reay jumps to P1 late in this session.
Scott Dixon was fastest in practice earlier. He’s running a similar line to Hunter-Reay on his qualifying lap. Dixon jumps to the top, by a mile.
Newgarden is the final car to the track. He has the quickest warmup lap of the field and he’s tracking P1. He’s fastest overall on lap 1 as he uses every inch of the track instead of pinching the entry and exit.
Josef Newgarden will start from the pole position in the NTT Indycar Series race at Texas Motor Speedway!
