Qualifying – Report
Duration: 25 minutes (Top 12 Advance)
Many drivers are on the track. But, they’re coasting to the green. It’s a 4 mile warmup lap, no need to abuse the tires. The falloff from lap 1 to lap 2 is expected to be a half to full second. Tire are crucial in this session.
18 minutes remain in round one, William Byron jumps to the top of the board with a 2:11.820.
16 minutes remain, Brad Keselowski runs wide and he’s in the grass. He picks up dirt on the grill and takes it right back to the pit lane.
15 minutes remain, Kyle Tilley is stopped on the track and the red is out. The clock is frozen but nobody on a hot lap can count their lap. They all have extra tire wear for no reason.
9 minutes left
9 minutes remaining, Allmendinger and Cindric are on track. Each of them ran the Xfinity race and they’re trending in the green. Cindric to the top of the board!
5 minutes remain, Bubba Wallace has lost power in turn 8 on his hot lap. He’s suffered a mechanical failure after downshifting in a heavy braking zone.
2 minutes remain, Wallace coasts to a stop and the red flag is out.
Briscoe, Dillon, Elliott, Stenhouse Jr, TY Dillon and Kyle Busch have not turned a lap. For all of them but Kyle Busch, the red flag may have prevented them from completing the lap.
2 minutes remain the track is back green, Elliott is on the gas and racing to make it to the start finish line. He has to complete his warmup lap and make it to the start/finish before time expires. However, he comes up one corner short. Elliott does not put up a time as he was on track for both red flags in this session.
Austin Cindric wins round one of qualifying at Road America!
