Road America Race Results: July 4, 2021 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR results from Road America

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is unloaded in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for the first time since 1956. The 4.048-mi road course of Road America is set for the Jockey Made in America 250. It’s the biggest crowd in the history of the track, sold out.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 14 (1-14 / 62)

William Byron, Kyle Larson - Road America - NASCAR Cup Series

Green flag, Byron gets the jump and leads into turn one. Allmendinger and Larson run side by side for 2nd. Larson finally clears Allmendinger on the inside in turn five. Larson has a look on outside of Byron but can’t complete the pass.

Lap 3, Suarez comes to a stop with a mechanical issue. The caution is out.

Green, Byron and Larson run side by side into turn one by Byron outbrakes him to lead off the corner.

Lap 6, Larson dive bombs Byron into turn five. He slides all the way through the corner and off the track. Byron drives right by to retake the lead as Larson falls to 3rd while he gathers it up.

Lap 10, Ty Dillon spins, no caution.

3 to go in stage one, Kris Tilley is off track and stuck in the beach. Many cars dive for the pit lane. Soon after, the caution is out.

William Byron cruises to the win in stage one at Road America!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 15 (15-29 / 62)

Byron and the rest of the leaders hit the pit lane. Byron beats Hamlin and Larson to the pit exit. Slow stop for Allmendinger. 11 cars stay out as they pitted ahead of the end of stage one. Martin Truex Jr and Matt DiBenedeto take over the front row as Byrons restarts outside the top 10.

Green flag on stage two, Truex Jr and DiBenedetto run even down the hill. Austin Cindric pops out from row two and makes it three wide for the lead into turn one. Cindric takes the lead on the inside off the corner.

Lap 19, DiBenedetto is all over the bumper of Cindric. He leans on him in turn three and dives to the inside in turn four. Side by side into turn five, Cindric holds the lead on the inside but Cindric crosses under him and now he has the inside for turn six. DiBenedetto to the lead!

Lap 20, Hamlin is suffering from brake fade. He cooks turn five, slides through the sand and the grass but keeps it rolling.

Lap 22, Keselowski spins, no caution.

6 to go in stage two

6 to go in stage two, Cindric is all over the bumper of DiBenedetto in the battle for the lead. He gets alongside and clears him to take the lead. Kyle Busch follows him through. Seconds later, Cindric has an issue in turn five, he slows and spins. Kyle Busch to the lead. Cindric heads to the garage with a broken axle.

4 to go in stage one, Corey LaJoie runs wide and makes contact with Austin Dillon as he attempts to re-enter the track. LaJoie spins, no caution.

3 to go, DiBenedetto and Elliott pits from 5th and 6th. Hamlin, Bowman, Allmendinger and most of the field also hit the pit lane ahead of the stage end.

2 to go, Kyle Busch pits from the lead, Truex Jr follows him from 2nd. Reddick, Byron, Chastain, Larson and others stay out. Kurt Busch runs wide and finds the grass from 4th.

Pit Penalty: Truex Jr is caught speeding, too fast entering the pit lane.

Tyler Reddick wins stage two at Road America!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 32 (30-62 / 62)

Reddick and all the cars that didn’t pit in stage two head for the pit lane. Kyle Busch returns to the lead with Chase Elliott alongside. Reddick restarts 18th.

Green flag on stage three, Kyle Busch clears Elliott into turn one. DiBenedetto works to the inside of Elliott and takes over 2nd in turn three.

DiBenedetto climbs to the bumper of Busch in a hurry. He drives right by and takes the race lead.

25 to go, Elliott is on the bumper of DeBenedetto. He dives to the inside in turn one, clear. Elliott leads.

20 to go, Anthony Alfredo blows a tire and spins into the sand. He’s stuck and the caution is out. Blaney is on pit lane as the caution flies, big break for him.

Elliott and most of the leaders hit the pit lane. Kyle Busch wins the race to the pit exit, Hamlin 2nd and Hamlin 3rd. Almirola and Blaney line up on the front row as Busch restarts 3rd.

Green, Almirola and Blaney run side by side into turn one. Kyle Busch sticks his nose in their to make it three wide. Almirola runs wide and pushes Blaney wide as well. Kyle Busch drives right by on the inside off turn one to take the lead. Elliott follows him through and takes 2nd.

17 to go

17 to go, Elliott beats on the rear bumper of Busch. Elliott has a run under him and takes the lead.

15 to go, Willian Byron missed turn five under braking. He used the runoff room to make a full loop and loses a ton of spots in the proess.

10 to go, Elliott leads Kyle Busch by 3.4 seconds.

7 to go, Byron and Newman pit for tires. If a caution comes out, the race will fall into their laps.

6 to go, Bowman cooks turn five with a brake issue and he clips the left rear of Larson in the process. Larson spins, no caution. Bowman is forced to pit with a tire rub.

5 to go, Christopher Bell drives by Kyle Busch to take 2nd. Elliott leads by 6 seconds.
