The second feature of the weekend was set to get underway. Owens started the feature from the 4th position as Gilpin started the race in 8th.
A few laps later, Owens, Gilpin and Brandon Sheppard ran three wide for 5th. The local hero, Gilpin was looking to impress on home turf.
Moments later, Owens and Gilpin both found speed on the cushion. Owens climbed all the way to 3rd with Gilpin in tow.
With 10 to go, Josh Rice suffered a flat tire. That handed Tyler Erb the lead and placed Owens and Gilpin side by side on the second row for the restart.
Devin Gilpin slides Jimmy Owens
Erb led the field into turn one. Gilpin drove it deep to the bottom in turn one as Owens knocked the cushion. Off turn two, Gilpin slid from the bottom to the top, just across the nose of Owens.
Owens was forced to jump on the brakes to avoid major contact. Gilpin slid a little too far and dropped his right rear over the edge of the track. Owens crossed under him and they fought for space off turn two.
They banged right front to left front and Owens’ front end came several feet off the ground with the contact. Both drives ran off the track down the back stretch.
They re-entered the track in turn three with Gilpin ahead but both drivers fell out of the top five. Owens drove it deep through the middle and drove right into the door of Gilpin.
Both drivers went over the banking in turn three and the caution was out. Both Gilpin and Owens called it a night, drove away from the scene and took it to the hauler.
Tonight, they’ll rack them again for the Jackson 100. Brownstown Speedway will pay $20,000 to win to the feature winner.
