NASCAR pink window nets bring large sum for charity

Here’s what each driver’s pink window net sold for at auction after the 2021 race on the Charlotte ROVAL

In 2019, Mason Bradley sent Kurt Busch a letter. The letter includes a drawing of Kurt car with a pink window net.

In the letter, the young fan suggested NASCAR could run pink window nets for breast cancer awareness. The letter read, “maybe you could do the window net pink”.

Mason’s mother, Stephanie was fighting breast cancer at the time of the letter. Now, she’s in remission.

The talks for the pink window nets began shortly after. Initially, it was talked about for 2020 but with scheduling issues, the year was too challenging to add another element.

A few months ago, NASCAR changed the rulebook regarding window nets. The previous line required all nets to be black. The rule was opened to “black unless another color is approved at NASCAR’s discretion.”

NASCAR returned to the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL earlier this month. Most of the field was fitted with pink window nets. After the race, those nets were put up for auction on ebay.

Bidding for the ‘Window of Hope’ nets concluded on October 21, 2021.

$55,884.80 was raised at the conclusion of the auction. Kevin Harvick had the highest bidding window net at $5,100.

There was a total of 1377 bids for all the nets combined. The most bids for a single net was for Kurt Busch’s pink net as 67 bids were placed to win the item.

Proceeds from the campaign are used to offset out-of-pocket expenses for families currently facing a breast cancer diagnosis.
