Tyler Reddick crashed on the pit lane in the final seconds of NASCAR practice at Homestead-Miami Speedway
On Friday, the NASCAR Cup Series rolled to the 1.5-mile oval of Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was the lone practice session ahead of Sunday’s championship race.
In the closing seconds of practice, there was a crash.
Todd Gilliland entered pit lane very slow. He was doing that to make a hard left hand turn into the garage area at the entry to the pit lane.
Behind him, Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick were coming in hot. Smith locked up the wheels but behind him, Tyler Reddick had no chance.
Reddick drove right into the back of Smith. The No. 45 picked up nose damage.
NASCAR team co-owner Michael Jordan is at the track this weekend. His reaction to the incident was on camera. The team owner threw his hands in the air after seeing the crash.

Tyler Reddick comments on the crash
“It just, it sums up our year,” Tyler Reddick told TNT Sports.
“When we have something that’s really solid, we find a way to screw it up. Me and Zane were both coming to pit road hot. Kinda almost at the point of no return.”
“I realized he was really checking up big. I saw there was like a car ahead turning into the garage. So, I’m guessing that’s where all of our troubles started.”
“We were both coming hot and expecting to roll down pit road. That’s just what it felt like.”
Reddick is one of The Chase drivers. He started the 2026 season by winning the first three races. He has since won three more this year for a total of six wins. But, a bad stretch of races in the middle of the season hurt their chances at the title.
The 2026 season comes to a close on Sunday at Homestead-Miami. Today, teams will return to the track for qualifying.
