Ty Gibbs to run full-time in NASCAR Xfinity Series for 2022

The grandson of Joe Gibbs will set into the next level of his racing career

Joe Gibbs Racing has announced that Ty Gibbs will drive full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the 2022 season. He’ll drive the No. 54 car.

The 19-year-old is the grandson of team owner.

“I’m excited to get going on the 2022 season,” Gibbs said in a team release. “Chris Gayle and the crew guys from the 54 were great last year and hopefully we can have even more success this year. Of course, I can’t thank everyone at Toyota and TRD enough for all their support as well. I’m just ready to get going in the No. 54 Toyota GR Supra.”

The prodigy ran 18 Xfinity races in 2021. He opened his career with a win at the Daytona Road Course, in his first race. He followed with three more wins at Charlotte, Watkins Glen and Kansas. At the same time, Gibbs won 10 of 20 races in ARCA Menards Series competition and went on to claim the championship.

Chris Gayle will serve as the crew chief. Gayle previously worked with Erik Jones.

Sponsors include Monster Energy, Interstate Batteries and Sport Clips. The 19-year-old will open the season in a Monster Energy machine at Daytona International Speedway.
