NASCAR fines Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing $100,000

The team has also been hit with a suspension and multiple point penalties

New for 2022, NASCAR released the Next Gen car. It came after years of development.

The car is a spec machine that’s designed to be identical from team to team. That includes the frame itself and the parts bolted on it. It’s a giant step toward leveling the playing field.

NASCAR teams are always going to push the limits in search of a competitive advantage. Ahead of the season, NASCAR issued a new penalty system in an attempt to highly discourage straying from the rulebook.

Atlanta Penalty

After last week’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, NASCAR has issued a penalty to Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing. The rule violation was discovered on the No. 6 machine driven by Brad Keselowski.

NASCAR penalties are typically released on Tuesday or Wednesday. The Thursday announcement is because the penalty stemmed after the car was taken back to the NASCAR R&D Center following the race.

Crew chief Matt McCall has been fined $100,000. He’s also been suspended for the next four races.

The team has been penalized 100 driver points as 100 owner points. Additionally, a loss of 10 playoff points has been attached to the penalty.

The team was found in violation of sections 14.1 and 14.5 in the rulebook. Both of those are related to modifications of a stock part.

L2 Penalty

NASCAR has a new tiered penalty system. L1, L2 and L3 penalties are the leveling structure. In this case, RFK Racing has been issued an L2.

Penalty options for a L2 infraction include:

-Points deductions: 75-120 points

-Playoff points deductions: 10-25 points

-Suspension of one or two crewmembers for 4-6 races

-Fines: $100,000-$250,000

Eddie Troconis suspended again

There was another penalty issued in the weekly penalty report.

Eddie Troconis has also been suspended indefinitely. He violated a member conduct portion of the rulebook.

Rule Sections: 4.3 and 4.43

Troconis was suspended by NASCAR as recently as a few months ago. That suspension began on October 6 and he was reinstated on February 11th of this year.
