Today, the NASCAR Cup Series unloads in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s the first race on the reconfigured 1.54-mile oval of Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Atlanta Race
Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 105 (1-105 / 325)

Green flag, Blaney and Briscoe run near even into turn one. Blaney noses ahead with a push from Logano on the inside lane. Briscoe fights back on the outside lane to retake the lead.

Lap 7, Kyle Busch has a run on the inside, he clears Briscoe to take the lead.

Lap 24, Noah Gragson spins, slams the wall and the caution is out.

Green, Byron pushes Ross Chastain clear of Kyle Busch, Chastain leads.

Lap 37, Byron clears Chastain to take the lead. Chastain crosses under him to retake the spot. Byron fights back once more, Byron back to the lead.

Lap 41, Chastain backs up to Elliott and they have a run into turn one, he dives to the inside and returns to the lead.

Lap 43, Byron has a run into turn three, he dives to the inside and returns to the lead.

Competition caution

Lap 46, Chastain dives inside of Byron and retakes the lead. The competition caution is out.

Blaney wins the race to the pit exit. However, he returns to the pit lane with an fueling issue. Logano takes over the lead.

Pit Penalties: Christopher Bell and Justin Haley are both hit with removing equipment from the box. Kurt Busch is penalized with a safety violation.

Green, Logano clears them to hold the lead.

Lap 55, Chastain clears Logano for the lead.

Lap 65, Logano to the lead. Chastain holds 2nd.

Lap 70, Chastain and Reddick split Logano. Logano drops outside the top 10 as Chastain returns to the lead.

Lap 95, Chastain blows a tire! The leader is in the wall and the caution is out.

Green, Byron leads with a push from Dillon. Kyle Busch leans on the rear bumper of Austin Dillon in turn four. Dillon gets sideways and slams the wall. Austin, Dillon, Ty Dillon, Kyle Busch and Briscoe are collected and the caution is out.

William Byron wins stage 1 under caution at Atlanta Motor Speedway!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 105 (105-210 / 325)

Byron and the leaders had for the pit lane. Many stay out as they pitted late in stage one. Bell and Logano take over the front row.

Green flag on stage two, Bell is clear via the outside lane.

Lap 122, Harvick leads a charge on the inside lane, he takes the lead away. It’s short lived as Truex Jr and Bell split Harvick three wide into turn one. Joey Logano takes his turn and moves to the lead shortly after.

Lap 128, Kurt Busch leads the inside lane. They clear Logano, Busch leads.

Lap 131, Justin Haley pushes Ricky Stenhouse Jr to the lead on the inside lane.

Lap 134, Suarez gets shoved out of line and they take him four wide. Suarez brushes the wall as they run out of space, no caution.

Lap 138, Reddick pushes Haley to the lead on the inside. Haley gets loose with a bump draft and Reddick takes over the lead. Byron takes his shot and returns to the lead.

Lap 145, Reddick loses a tire toward the front of the field. He clogs up the track and collects Kurt Busch, Logano, Larson, Hamlin and Cindric. The caution is out.

Green, Blaney pushes Harvick to the lead via the outside lane.

Lap 156, caution for debris.

Green, Erik Jones pushes Byron to the lead on the inside lane.

Lap 184, Stenhouse Jr pushes Blaney clear. That’s a record number of lead changes at this track. Moments later, Stenhouse Jr takes the lead.

10 to go in stage two, Ricky Stenhouse Jr blows a tire and spins. He collects Austin Cindric, Erik Jones and Kevin Harvick. The caution is out.

Green, Chase Elliott shoves Kyle Larson to the lead on the inside lane.

2 to go in stage two, Blaney dives to the inside of Larson to take over the lead. Hamlin leans in the rear bumper of Larson off turn four, Larson gets turned across the field and the caution is out.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 115 (211-325 / 325)

Blaney and the rest of the leaders head for the pit lane. Many stay out as they pitted at the end of stage two. Suarez and Truex Jr take over the front row.

Green flag on stage three, Suarez is clear into turn one.

Lap 225, Truex Jr has a run on Suarez into turn three. Bubba Wallace pushes Truex Jr to the lead.

86 to go, Elliott leads the train on the outside lane. He clears Truex Jr, Elliott leads.

72 to go, caution for debris.

Elliott leads the field to the pit lane. Almirola wins the race to the pit exit with a two tire call.

Green, Blaney shoves Byron to the lead on the inside lane.

40 to go, Byron leads Wallace and Blaney. The top 10 have formed single file as many are saving fuel.

25 to go

25 to go, Todd Gilliland spins off turn two. Cody Ware also spins and slams the inside wall. The caution is out.

Green, Almirola pushes Blaney clear of Bubba Wallace, Byron leads.

18 to go, Ross Chastain turns Almirola off turn four, caution.

Green, Byron and Wallace run side by side for the lead. Blaney gives a shove to Wallace off turn four, Bubba Wallace leads.

10 to go, Byron looks inside of Wallace into turn one. Wallace sidedrafts hard to defend by Byron clears him to make it 46 lead changes so far, blowing away the previous record.

5 to go, the top 8 run single file around the top, Byron leads Wallace.

1 to go, Chastain looks inside of Wallace for 2nd. Bell looks inside of Chastain off turn two, Chastain pushes Bell below the yellow line.

William Byron wins at Atlanta Motor Speedway! Multiple cars crash behind them!

Penalty: NASCAR has ruled that Bell went below the double line, the 2nd place runner will be scored at the tail of the lead lap.
