NASCAR Penalty Report: May 2022 (Charlotte Motor Speedway)

Multiple NASCAR suspensions issued after Charlotte Motor Speedway

Over the weekend, Charlotte Motor Speedway hosted a busy race weekend. ARCA, Trucks, Xfinity and the Cup Series all took the green on the 1.5-mile oval. The weekend concluded with the famed Coca-Cola 600.

After the race weekend, only one penalty has been issued for on-track activity. However, two NASCAR members have been suspended indefinitely for off-track incidents.

Driver: Ryan Ellis #55

Infraction Date: May 28, 2022 (Post-Race)

Level: Safety

Infraction: Sections 10.9.10.4 – Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Michael Brandt ) has been fined $5,000.

Other Penalties

Michael Adair has been suspended indefinitely. Adair was listed as the hauler driver for the No. 43 Petty GMS Motorsports team in the NASCAR Cup Series. He was found in violation of Sections 4.1 (NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) and 10.1 (General Procedure) in the Rule Book.

Kase Kallenbach has also been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR. He was found in violation of Section 4.4.e noting NASCAR Member Code of Conduct Penalty Options and Guidelines. Kallenbach served as the crew chief for the No. 6 JD Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the first 12 races of the season. Alex Bird sat on the pit box last weekend at Charlotte.

Jason Houghtaling formerly sat on the box as the crew chief for the Jesse Iwuji Motorsports team before being suspended earlier this season. He has now been reinstated. He was suspended on May 3 noting a behavioral penalty under Sections 4.4.e of the Rule Book (NASCAR Member Code of Conduct).
