Ty Gibbs was handed a $75,000 fine then called out by Erik Jones for a seperate incident at Texas Motor Speedway
Drama continues to circulate following Sunday’s NASCAR Playoff race at Texas Motor Speedway. The race featured multiple incidents and $125,000 in fines that followed.
Watch the Ty Gibbs vs Erik Jones video below.
Ty Gibbs was fined $75,000 on Tuesday for an incident on pit road. Ty Dillon exited his stall and forced Ty Gibbs to make an evasive maneuver to get around him.
Soon after, Gibbs pulled alongside Dillon and turned left. He pushed Dillon a full lane over. Both cars ran very close to a pit stall which still have a car, crew members and a NASCAR official standing in it.
That incident could have taken a very dangerous turn. NASCAR reacted with one the largest penalties in recent years.
But, Ty Dillon wasn’t the only drive Gibbs had an issue with at Texas Motor Speedway…
Several seconds after a caution was deployed, Gibbs drove into the rear bumper of Erik Jones. He didn’t spin him but Jones still didn’t take the situation lightly.
Jones reacted by stomping the brakes. A brake check caused Gibbs to drive into the rear bumper of Jones for a second time.
Gibbs has already been handed a penalty for aggression on the pit lane. The Cup Series rookie issued a statement via social media, addressing the penalty.
At 3:00am, Erik Jones commented on the tweet from Gibbs, “Don’t ever bump me under yellow again.:
Petty-GMS, the team that Jones drives then responded to the tweet from Jones, “This has t-shirt written all over it meaning this should be written on a t-shirt and selling like hot cakes”
Ironically, William Byron spun Denny Hamlin under caution, in the same race. The two drivers were racing for 2nd when Byron made contact with the outside wall. When a caution came out just a few laps later, Byron drove into the bumper of Hamlin, spinning him around.
The incident was very similar to what Gibbs did to Jones, minus the spin. NASCAR reacted this week by giving Byron a $50,000 fine.
