NASCAR penalty appeal date set for Hendrick Motorsports

Hendrick Motorsports appealed the $400,000 fine for hood louvers; Their appeal date is March 29th

At Phoenix Raceway, NASCAR confiscated hood louvers from all four Hendrick Motorsports’ teams. They also took louvers from the No. 31 Kaulig Racing machine.

The louvers were taken on a practice day. The parts were then transported to the NASCAR R&D Center for evaluation.

NASCAR elected to penalize all five teams $100,000 each. They were also docked 100 driver points, 100 owner points and 10 playoff points. It was an L2 level violation.

Chase Elliott is the exception, he was out of the car due to injury. For the No. 9 team, they were only docked 100 owner points.

For Hendrick Motorsports, it was a collective fine of $400,000. That makes it the single largest penalty ever handed out to a team.

NASCAR noted Section 14.5.4.2.A which is related to the hood louver assembly.

Hendrick Motorsports appeals

The team has claimed they did nothing wrong. Soon after the penalties were announced, the team elected to appeal.

They have stated that there’s been many issues with the hood louvers specifically. They claim many teams have to modify the parts to get them to fit the car.

They have further claimed that hood louvers sitting on shelves, untouched, would be considered illegal by NASCAR standards.

Now, many days after the appeal was filed, the appeal date has been set. Their case will be heard on March 29th.
