NASCAR drivers continue to stir the pot following aggression
Two weeks ago, NASCAR raced on the road course of Circuit of the Americas. The event brought drama to the NASCAR garage.
A lack of respect and an uptick of aggression sent the race into triple overtime. On each restart, multiple cars were involved in turn 1 contact.
In one of those cases, Ross Chastain shoved Alex Bowman into Daniel Suarez, spinning him out.
After the race, Daniel Suarez stayed in the gas. On his cool down lap, Suarez was charging through the field. He was in search of both Alex Bowman and his own teammate, Ross Chastain.
Suarez caught up to both drivers just as he reached the pit lane. He first gave Chastain a shove. Then, he caught the bumper of Alex Bowman.
Suarez gave Bowman a shot. Bowman responded by giving him a brake check, resulting in more contact.
In the days that followed, Suarez was handed a fine for contact on the pit lane after the race.
Kyle Busch spoke on the aggression at COTA. He also noted that he picked the inside on the restarts, specifically so he wasn’t pushed off the track into turn one.
As he was speaking with reporters, Ross Chastain walked up beside him. As he approached, Kyle Busch pointed at Chastain and said, “Somebody else that doesn’t know anything about clean, over here.”
Kyle Busch jokes that Ross Chastain might need glasses
“Last week, looking at the Suarez incident, Chastain dove it in, like anybody would and ran into the back of the guy who ran into the back of Suarez,” Kyle Busch said a week later from the Richmond Raceway media center.
“It wasn’t malicious intent for the No. 1 to hit the No. 99. It just happened that way through a chain reaction.”
“Maybe I hit somebody with my front end going into the corner. But, I think you can do a pretty good job of knowing where your stuff’s at.”
“Maybe he needs glasses? I don’t know,” Kyle Busch joked.
“I started wearing them this year. And I see way better.”
