Kyle Larson’s High Limit Sprint Car Series raced at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. The track is a 3/8-mile bullring dirt track.

The incident took place in the 410 sprint car division. Alex Bowman and Conner Morrell banged wheels at the start/finish line. That sent both drivers flipping into turn one.

The wing of a sprint car is designed to act as soft landing soft in the case a car is turned over. However, in this case, multiple flips crushed the wing significantly. By the time Bowman came to a rest, the wing was completely mangled, hanging off the side of the machine.

The 30-year-old driver was treated at a local hospital. He’s currently on his way back to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Josh Berry will drive the No. 48 this weekend. Berry previously filled in for the injured Chase Elliott, who recently returned to the car.

Hendrick Motorsports will request a playoff waiver upon Alex Bowman’s return.
