NASCAR issues memo regarding restarts; Penalty warning

NASCAR reminds drivers of the restart procedure ahead of Pocono Raceway

Last week, NASCAR raced at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event saw a big crash on a restart due to cars laying back and getting a run.

However, we saw laying back in all divisions. While no stack up took place in the Cup race, NASCAR wasn’t happy with the formations of the restarts.

“I don’t think either race, the Cup race or the Xfinity race, I don’t think our guys did a very good job on restarts. We’ll start there,” Elton Sawyer told ‘The Morning Drive’ via Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

NASCAR issues memo to teams

Ahead of this weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR issued the following note to teams:

A reminder concerning the restart procudure:

– “The front row must be side by side and maintain caution vehicle speed.”

– “All other rows stay inline, side by side and nose to tail.”

– “No laying back.”

– “If, in NASCAR’s judgement, you are laying back or not maintaining caution car speed, you will be penalized.”

The penalty for laying back on a restart would be a drive thru penalty.
