Ken Schrader reflects on the Paul Tracy incident after suspension

Paul Tracy was suspended by SRX after Ken Schrader said he wouldn’t run another race with him

Last week, Paul Tracy ran Josef Newgarden into the outside wall during the SRX Series race at Motor Mile Speedway. Tracy turned himself in front of the field, collecting Ken Schrader.

It was just the most recent in a long list of SRX incidents involving Paul Tracy.

After the crash, Schrader walked to the window of Tracy to have a brief conversation. And his interview after the crash was even shorter as he stated, “I’m not running another race with him. I’m done.”

After the race, Don Hawk announced that Tracy was suspended for the remainder of the 2023 season. Tracy was previously scheduled to run all 6 races in the mini-series.

Tracy was the first driver in the brief history of SRX to be suspended.

Ken Schrader comments following the suspension

“It was time to go,” Ken Schrader reflected on his comment after last week’s incident during an SRX segment on Thursday.

“You know, things happen. That’s why they make you put a helmet on, a fire proof suit, tether your helmet to you shoulders and stuff. Cause there’s a damn good chance something’s going to happen.”

“But, it shouldn’t just happen that often.”

Thursday’s race at Berlin Raceway was completed without a single spin or crash. That worked out well for the series as they were down to just 1 backup car.

Next week, the series heads to the dirt track of Eldora Speedway. Chase Briscoe has been added to the driver lineup, in place of Tracy.
