NASCAR driver placed on a stretcher after Daytona crash (Video)

Ryan Preece flipped violently at Daytona International Speedway

On Saturday night, NASCAR raced at Daytona International Speedway. It was the final event of the regular season, offering one final chance for a driver to grab a spot in the playoffs.

With 6 laps to go, Ryan Preece was turned off a bump draft gone wrong from Erik Jones. Preece was turned left in front of the field at around 190mph.

He collected Chase Briscoe. Briscoe and Preece both slid through the grass. Preece slid backwards toward the infield which allowed air to get under the car.

Preece’s car was tossed into the air. It landed roof first, the car dug into the grass and began flipping violently. The car flipped 10 times.

Preece climbed out on his own. However, the medical team elected to place him on a stretcher before placing him in the ambulance.

They initially took him to the infield medical center. Yet, Preece has since been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Stewart-Haas Racing confirmed stating, “Ryan Preece has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.”

The crash sent to race into an overtime finish.

Around Midnight, Preece took to twitter:

“If you want to be a race car driver, you better be tough. Dammit. Fast Race Choice Ford Performance Mustang. I’m coming back,” Preece stated.

Update: Sunday

On Sunday Morning, the team issued the following statement:

“Ryan Preece has remained overnight at Halifax Health Medical Center for continued observation. He is awake, alert, and mobile. He has been communicating with family and friends.”

They added, “He will be evaluated by medical personnel later this morning.”

On Sunday afternoon, Stewart-Haas Racing posted the following update:

“Earlier this morning, Ryan Preece was discharged from Halifax Health Medical Center. He is on his way home to North Carolina.”
