The safety team was at the scene quickly. Armstrong took his time getting out of the car.

The safety team placed the driver on a stretcher and rolled him to the ambulance. The driver waved to the crowd as he was loaded.

This happened during the final practice session ahead of the opening round of qualifying. Qualifying is now underway and Marcus Armstrong is not yet been cleared by the medical team after the crash.

Meyer Shank Racing is currently preparing the road course car for Armstrong. The team has no replacement driver.

Hours after this crash, Colton Herta also slammed the wall. He flipped upside down and slammed the wall for a second time.

Indycar Medical Update

“He is awake. He’s alert and he’s doing well,” Indycar medical doctor Julia Vaizer told FOX Sports.

She added, “These hits at the IMS oval and can be very hard. We just want to make sure we don’t rush things. We take our time and make the right decisions for the driver.”

Ericsson was seen at the medical center and released. However, he’s not yet cleared to get back in the seat.

Cars are now on track for Indy 500 qualifying. It remains unclear if Armstrong will be back behind the wheel.

Yesterday, Kyffin Simpson slammed the wall and caught air. Kyle Larson also tagged the wall.

Update: Marcus Armstrong comments

Armstrong has since cleared concussion protocols. He’s now cleared to race.

“Obviously, it was a rather large hit. But, I’m feeling okay now,” Armstrong told Fox Sports.

The crew is hard at work to prepare the backup car.

“The car is being rebuilt. A different car, our road course car. Fingers crossed that we’ll get out for an install lap or even a full run if we’re lucky.”

“I’m ready to go into T1, flat out, again. Maybe with a little more downforce this time. But, I’m ready to go for it.”
