Meanwhile, 2nd place in the standings drove to victory lane
This weekend, High Limit Racing raced at Lakeside Speedway. It was the second to last race before next week’s championship finale at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
Abreu unloaded ahead of tonight’s race with an 89 point advantage.
With 22 laps to go in the 30 lap feature, Aaron Reutzel and Tanner Holmes tangled as Reutzel launched from the cushion and had monetum into turn one.
Reutzel was sent straight into the air. While airborne, he clipped the wing of Joel Myers Jr. and ripped it clear off. Reutzel and Myers Jr both flipped across the track.
Multiple cars came into the scene and were collected as debris scattered the track. That included point leader Rico Abreu. In addition, Reutzel was 2nd in the standings coming into tonight’s race.
All drivers were able to climb from their cars after the crash. Myers Jr was taken to the ambulance with help from the safety team.

Abreu’s car was damaged in the crash and towed to the pit area. However, the crew elected to add fuel to the car while in the pit area. That’s against the rulebook.
Per the rules, “Adding fuel, whether on the track or in the work area, will not be permitted when yellow flag and/or closed red flag conditions exist. Violators are subject to disqualification and/or fine and/or suspension and/or any other action deemed appropriate by High Limit Officials.”
Abreu was disqualified. And, in the worst case scenario for Abreu, 2nd place in the standings grabbed the race win at Lakeside Speedway.
Giovanni Scelzi drove to victory lane. He now trails Rico Abreu by just 45 points heading into the finale next week in Texas.
