Austin Hill was crashed by his RCR teammate; Sam Mayer was crashed by his JR Motorsports teammate; Hill knocks Mayer
Last week, teammates across multiple teams took each other out at Bristol Motor Speedway. Some of that drama has followed the NASCAR Xfinity Series into Texas Motor Speedway.
First, last week, Josh Berry cut a tire down at Bristol. He couldn’t make the corner and took out teammate Brandon Jones and Sam Mayer in the process. Three JR Motorsports cars were involved.
Later in the race, Sheldon Creed clipped the left rear of teammate Austin Hill exiting the corner at Bristol. Creed took blame in the incident. Austin Hill declined to comment after the crash.
However, the RCR teammates were able to quickly work things out. The following week, Hill has taken the opportunity to knock his playoff competitor Sam Mayer.
Hill made the comments during Xfinity qualifying. The race at Texas Motor Speedway is set to get underway.
Austin Hill knocks Sam Mayer
“You’re heated after these races, playoff are here so intensity’s high,” Hill said to the NBC broadcast.
“You’re going to be mad about situations, but Sheldon and I are really good friends off the racetrack. We hang out on Sundays a lot of the times after a race weekend. So we’re good.”
“We had a really nice chat on Monday kind of just talked about the situation on things he saw, things I saw on what happened and what we can do to be better going forward. Love having him as a teammate, no hard feelings nothing like that. We’re good man, I promise you that.”
Then, Hill threw in a curveball. He compared his situation to Sam Mayer’s…
Hill concluded, “We’re good. We can handle it like men… We’re not Sam Mayer by any means.”

What did Sam Mayer say?
“I got to actually talk to Josh so I’m not gonna say anything stupid now,” Mayer said, via NASCAR.
“But obviously very frustrating and unfortunate way to end a solid day. We were getting better and better as we went.”
“I think by the end of it, we were gonna be right there and able to make something happen. I don’t know if we had race-winning speed yet. We obviously didn’t survive long enough to tell but just unfortunate.”
Mayer added, “Obviously, he said he cut a tire down so that’s just part of it. But I mean, racing that hard at the end of Stage 2 for no reason, I mean, it’s not really a veteran move in my opinion. But what do I know I guess?”
