Chip Ganassi struck a dog leaving the Rolex 24 at Daytona

Devlin DeFrancesco’s dog died in the incident

On Sunday, the famed Rolex 24 took place at Daytona International Speedway. It concluded a 24 hour IMSA sportscar event.

Hear from Chip Ganassi below.

After the event, there was a tragic incident in the RV lot. Chip Ganassi struck and killed a dog. The owner of the dog was Devlin DeFrancesco.

Initially, Chip Ganassi attempted to reach out to the DeFrancesco family. Multiple calls went unanswered. However, they have since connected via social media.

DeFrancesco races full-time in the INDYCAR Series with Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport. Chip Ganassi is the owner of Ganassi Racing who also fields multiple cars in the INDYCAR field.

Chip Ganassi comments

“The accident the other night with Devlin DeFrancesco’s dog was so unfortunate,” Chip Ganassi opened on social media.

“I not only feel terrible about it I also feel terrible for Devlin, Katie and the DeFrancesco kids. On behalf of their dog Lucky and the DeFrancesco family I am making a generous donation to the Indianapolis Humane Society.

Devlin DeFrancesco comments

“I want to personally thank Chip Ganassi for his apology to myself, my parents, my siblings and Katie,” DeFrancesco opened on social media.

“Nothing will be able to bring Lucky back or make the pain go away but I would also like to say thank you to Chip for his donation to the Humane Society of Indianapolis. In support of other dogs/puppies in a city that is so important to me. Where I spend a lot of my time doing what I love with great people.”

An X account named @TessaGanassi made their first post on the platform since 2015:

“What a joke. He hates animals,” the statement opened.

“Like when he let my dog out the front door onto a main road in the snow at night with no leash when I was 8, then called me ‘braindead’ for not bringing a house key with me when I ran outside in the snow to get her.”

“He always pulls out of the track like a maniac. Like pulling out of IMS when he hit into a man walking with a cane, then the guy shattered my dad’s car window with the cane, and my dad just kept driving?”

“He feels remorse for absolutely nothing, I promise you. Throwing money at the situation per usual.”
