Jensen Ford and the team aren’t exactly sure what happened during the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race
On Saturday, East Bay Raceway hosted the final Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Winternationals event. The track is set to be sold this year.
Early in the feature race, Jensen Ford climbed to 2nd. He was then in a battle with Tyler Erb for the race lead.
On lap 21 of 50, Jensen Ford abruptly came to a stop in the middle of turns 1-2 while running 3rd. Safety officials approached the car and the red flag was briefly put out.
The driver was put into an ambulance.
Since the incident, the team has released more details on the incident. And to them, it remains mostly a mystery…
Jenson Ford Racing Update
“He believes when he hit the hole in 1/2 his head slammed into the headrest on his seat and it knocked him unconscious. He is now doing perfectly fine. Thank you to everyone for checking on him.”
The team later added:
“Jensen was running in the feature last night and at one point was even racing Terbo for the lead until all of a sudden he went into turn 1/2 and the next thing he remembers was seeing a green light flashing and hearing his engine revving up because it had been knocked out of gear/jensen managed to take it out of gear and his foot was on the gas pedal.”
“He does not remember anything flying in and hitting him and felt completely fine one minute and then was out the next. The paramedics were suspicious of dehydration but Jensen had been drinking plenty of fluids and had eaten so don’t believe that was it.”
“The track was rough and he believes he hit a hole in the corner and his head slammed into his headrest but we really aren’t sure. He was evaluated and everything checked out perfectly fine. The helmet has no damage so again we still aren’t sure what happened.”
“Jensen’s neck is VERY sore and his whole body hurts but otherwise is completely fine!”
