NASCAR driver Kyle Busch spins while trying to hold off Ross Chastain at Kansas Speedway

Kyle Busch has gone 19 straight years with a win in the NASCAR Cup Series. However, for 2024, the two-time series champion has gone winless.

Today at Kansas Speedway, Busch took the lead away from Ross Chastain late in the race. Chastain remained in pursuit as they raced through lap traffic.

Watch the Kyle Busch spin video below.

With just 32 laps to go, Busch was working Chase Briscoe who was on the tail end of the lead lap. Briscoe gave Busch the outside in turn two. Busch stepped into the throttle and attempted to fill the hole.

While Briscoe was on the tail end of the lead lap, he’s a playoff drivers. Briscoe is currently under the cutline and he needs every position he can get.

As they exited turn two, Busch get tight in dirty air. He then ran wide and tagged the outside wall. The No. 8 car went spinning toward the infield from the race lead.

Kyle Busch led 26 laps but ended his day with another disappointing finish after a season of frustration.

Kyle Busch comments after the race at Kansas Speedway

“I was trying to make up speed, cover the No. 1 car and make sure I could stay ahead of him,” Kyle Busch stated.

“The No. 14 turned down the hill in under to get clean air from the guy in front of him. So, I went to his outside and plugged the hole. Just air.”

“For some reason, felt nothing off the corner. Hadn’t really had that, like that, the whole time. There’s a term for that, I want to say right now, but I can’t. Busted my butt.”

“We hung behind the No. 1 car for 15 laps. Finally passed him and could get away from him a little bit. Catch a lap car, backup a little bit. The gap just kept doing that.”

“I guess I just got in too big a hurry.”

Busch added, “I’m numb. I don’t know what to do.”

Only 6 races remain in the 2024 season. While Busch missed the playoffs he still has limited opportunity to keep his yearly win streak alive.
