This weekend, Kyle Larson has a conflict between NASCAR and Indycar events
Kyle Larson is set to make his second attempt at running Indycar’s Indy 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600, in the same day.
This weekend, NASCAR is running the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. At the same time, IndyCar is hosting practice and qualifying at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Larson has a conflict for Friday and Saturday between North Wilkesboro and Indianapolis.
Justin Allgaier will drive the No. 5 in practice and qualifying at North Wilkesboro. Larson is still scheduled to start Sunday’s All-Star Race.
The No. 5 car will not race in the heat races. Instead, Larson will jump behind the wheel and start the All-Star race from the tail of the field.
Cliff Daniels comments
“We’re fortunate to have Justin and we appreciate him stepping in to help,” said Cliff Daniels, crew chief for the No. 5 team.
“He and Kyle are very similar in size, so there’s a lot in the cockpit that’s common between the two.”
“I think that serves him well and it serves us well,” Daniels continued. “He’s had some time in the simulator driving the track and he did the wheel-force test there a year ago, so he’s got some experience in the Cup car at North Wilkesboro. We’re looking to put in a solid practice and make sure the car drives good.”
Allgaier will remain on standby as the reserve drivers for both Sunday and North Wilkesboro and next weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
