Racing team returns a week after their hauler flipped on the highway

The team hauler driver fell asleep at the wheel after last week’s race and caused a crash on I-80; Only a week later, they’re heading to Watkins Glen International

Last weekend, the ARCA Menards Series (a division of NASCAR) raced at Iowa Speedway. After leaving the Newton, IA facility on Friday night, Clubb Racing Incorporated had a bit of a drive ahead to return to their shop in Illinois.

Iowa Results: August 1, 2025 (ARCA Menards Series)

During the trip, their hauler driver fell asleep at the wheel around 1am on August 2nd. The trailer was stuck by two semis in the crash on I-80.

The trailer ended up on its side, blocking the east board lane with the racecar still strapped inside. The damage was extended to the trailer, car, dually truck as well as much of the race-day equipment.

“This morning around 1am one of our team members fell asleep while we were traveling back from the race at Iowa speedway. Unfortunately in the accident our rig flipped and was stuck across the right east bound lane of I 80,” the team confirmed.

Crowdfunding efforts

Initially, the team wasn’t sure if they would be able to return to the track. Driver Alex Clubb sits 6th in the ARCA Menards Series standings.

The same team setup a crowdfunding effort to help get back to the track. At the time this is published, they have collected nearly $17,000 of the current $25k goal.

$80,000 in total damage was done to the equipment per a statement from Clubb Racing. The team was also handed a tow bill of $8,000.

Now, just days later, the team has remarkably been able to put their equipment together.

They’re heading to this weekend’s race at Watkins Glen International in New York with not one but two entries in the ARCA Menards Series race. Alex Clubb will drive the No. 03 as Casey Carden pilots the No. 86 car.

Clubb Racing Inc comments on their return
