NASCAR inspection issues at Kansas Speedway
Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is set for the green flag in Kansas City, KS. Yesterday, teams were required to roll through inspection before turning a lap in practice.
Multiple cars failed inspection more than once. Three teams have been issued a penalty.
Shane van Gisbergen No. 88
Shane van Gisbergen cleared inspection. However, the team was found making unapproved adjustments after clearing inspection.
No. 88 Penalty: Crew chief Stephen Dran has been ejected from the event. The team has lost pit selection. Additionally, the driver will start from the rear of the field and serve a stop and go penalty at the start of the race.
Michael McDowell No. 71
Michael McDowell’s car failed inspection on his first try. During their second attempt through the line, NASCAR saw the team making adjustments to the splitter.
NASCAR made the team start the inspection process over. They then failed on their second attempt.
No. 71 Penalty: Crew chief Travis Peterson has been ejected from the track. The car has lost pit selection. Additionally, McDowell will start at the rear of the field and serve a stop and go penalty at the start of the race.
Cody Ware No. 51
The No. 51 team failed inspection twice. They were able to clear inspection on their third attempt.
No. 51 Penalty: Car chief Dave Jones has been ejected from the event. The team has also lost pit selection.

2 Failures
Crew member of NASCAR’s choosing ejected. Additionally, the team loses pit selection.
3 Failures
Not permitted to qualify plus above penalty. They also have to serve a pass-through penalty at the start of the race.
