Water truck crash at Southern Raceway
Southern Raceway is a dirt track in Milton, Florida.
On October 18th, the 3/8-mile track hosted night 1 of their season championship. While prepping the track for racing, the water truck suffered a rollover.
The medical helicopter was called to the track and Derrick Benton was flown to the hospital.
Another man was also in the truck at the time of the crash. However, he was checked at the track by the medical team.
Southern Raceway statement
On Saturday, the track issued the following statement:
“Thank you for the continued prayers for Derrick Benton,” the track opened in a statement.
“He was life-flighted from the track after a rollover in the water truck. He is awake & getting medical attention. Blackflag Lee was also in the water truck and was walking around, but still getting checked on.”
“He worked very hard on the track this week and his efforts are not going to waste, we’re going to get this show in one way or another.”
“Please keep the prayers coming. He’s so special to us.”
The final night of racing at the track for the season is scheduled for November 1st.
