William Sawalich out due to injury after Talladega crash (Video)

The NASCAR driver has not been cleared to race at Martinsville Speedway

Last weekend, the NASCAR Xfinity Series raced at Talladega Superspeedway. William Sawalich was involved in a heavy crash during stage two that ended his day and sent him to the hospital.

After being evaluated at the infield care center, Sawalich was transported to a local hospital. The driver was soon cleared from the hospital.

However, Sawalich will not race this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Instead, Justin Bonsignore will fill the seat of the No. 18 car…

Joe Gibbs Racing statement

“Joe Gibbs Racing announced today that William Sawalich will miss Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway after experiencing concussion-like symptoms following his accident during last Saturday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway.”

The team added, “In his absence, Justin Bonsignore will drive the No. 18 Sound Gear Toyota GR Supra this weekend.”

19-year-old Sawalich is currently running his rookie season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He has two runner-up finishes which he claimed at Portland and Gateway.

William Sawalich comments

“I’m disappointed to not be in the car this weekend, but my health is my number one priority,” Sawalich said in the team release.

“I’m feeling better every day and working with Dr. Collins at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and NASCAR to go through their concussion protocol to return to the track as soon as possible.”

This weekend, NASCAR is rolling into Martinsville Speedway. It’s the final playoff elimination race before the championship finale.
